3WAY filaments at the aviation competition

The AIAA Design/Build/Fly (DBF) is an international student competition in the field of aerospace engineering organized by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). The competition offers students the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in practice. Students design and build a remote-controlled aircraft that must meet specific technical requirements and perform specific missions. Teams must consider not only the aircraft design but also costs, manufacturing constraints, and the demands of the aerospace industry. To achieve their goals, they need high-quality materials that can meet the technical requirements of the competition. At 3WAY, we have decided to support them in this area with our high-quality filaments.

Why is this competition so important?

DBF is recognized as one of the most challenging and esteemed academic challenges in aviation, as it allows students to gain valuable practical experience and connect with industry professionals. The competition also provides them with a direct insight into the aerospace industry. Teams use the same approaches as professional engineers in companies, and in this way, participants acquire valuable skills that will benefit them in the future. Success in this competition opens doors to employment opportunities and strengthens the connection between academia and industry.

This year, among the selected teams is the student organization ADUM, which has been preparing for this major challenge for months. Their goal is not only to participate but also to encourage students to think critically, solve engineering challenges, and gain practical experience that will benefit them in their future careers.

The work process and aircraft manufacturing

The aircraft must meet strict technical requirements while performing tasks as effectively as possible, so every decision and every step is of utmost importance. At ADUM, they began their work by analyzing the rules of this year’s competition. Then, they determined the limitations and requirements of the competition so they could design the best possible aircraft. Based on their findings, they created the first models and conducted simulations (aerodynamic and structural analyses). The next step was making corrections and improvements.

For the aircraft’s construction, they used advanced manufacturing techniques such as CNC machining, carbon fiber layering, and of course, 3D printing, where they utilized 3WAY filaments.

Recently, they also organized an event where they showcased their competition aircraft before departing for America. This event was a great opportunity for them to present the results of their hard work to visitors, supporters, and industry professionals. The audience had the chance to get an in-depth look at the development process and the challenges they faced while preparing for the competition. The event concluded with a demonstration of the aircraft and an engine startup.

Our support for the team

At 3WAY, we decided to support them on their path to success. Their dedication and innovation impressed us, so we were happy to contribute to their participation in this prestigious competition by donating 3WAY 3D filaments for 3D printing aircraft parts. We believe that their determination and expertise, combined with our high-quality filaments, will make an impact at the competition and leave a lasting impression. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for the success of Team ADUM and are excited to be part of this remarkable journey!

*The ADUM team sincerely thanks 3WAY for their donation.
