hyperMILL 5X MILLING

What is hyperMILL 5X milling?

hyperMILL 5-axis machining is globally recognized as an innovative, simple, and reliable technology for use. Depending on the machining task and the machine kinematics, users can choose the optimal type of 5-axis machining.

It includes various tilting strategies, such as machining with a fixed tool angle (3+2), automatic indexing, and 5-axis simultaneous machining.

Knowledge of 3D interface strategies such as profile machining or automatic scrap processing can be upgraded to 5-axis machining. A wide range of 5-axis strategies is available for contour depth and fine surface and shape machining (Shape Offset strategies).

Instead of standard 3-axis movement, it enables simultaneous movement in five axes.

With the help of hyperMILL 5X milling, you achieve:

  • More freedom in toolpath design,
  • better access to hard-to-reach surfaces,
  • fewer setups and clamping during machining,
  • higher machining quality and accuracy.

How does hyperMILL 5X milling work?

5-axis milling with hyperMILL provides an advanced solution for machining complex geometries and hard-to-reach surfaces. While traditional 3-axis machining only moves the tool along three coordinates (X, Y, Z), 5-axis milling includes two additional rotary axes (A and B or C), allowing the tool to move and rotate in space. This results in greater flexibility, better access to undercut areas, and fewer setup changes.

hyperMILL allows for intuitive toolpath creation – the user only enters key points, and the system automatically calculates optimal paths based on the part geometry, machine constraints, tool type, and safety parameters. Intelligent algorithms continuously adjust the tool’s tilt and vector based on the surface shape, enabling shorter paths, more stable milling, and exceptional surface quality.

In addition, hyperMILL also supports 5-sided machining, where the part is processed from multiple sides without re-clamping. This reduces setup time and increases accuracy. For the most demanding tasks, the system also allows simultaneous 5-axis movement, ensuring smooth, safe transitions and highly efficient machining in a single step.

Who uses hyperMILL 5X milling?

hyperMILL 5X milling is the ideal solution for industries where high precision is crucial and machining can be complex or surfaces are highly demanding. These include industries such as aerospace, automotive, medical, and toolmaking.

How to get started with hyperMILL 5X milling?

Getting started with hyperMILL 5X milling is quite simple. The system is designed to be accessible to both beginners and experienced users who want to take advantage of advanced CAM programming. The first step is to analyze your existing processes. Consider which operations you currently perform manually or with 3-axis milling, and which of these could be simplified with 5-axis technology. Then, install hyperMILL and integrate CAD data. The software seamlessly connects with your CAD system, allowing easy transfer of models into the programming environment. hyperMILL offers templates and strategies for various types of machining, enabling a quick start without the need for complex setups. Before sending the program to the machine, be sure to check the tool paths with the built-in simulation, which helps detect potential collisions and optimizes machine movement (hyperMILL Virtual Machining). Once everything is ready, you can run your program and begin precise, safe, and efficient 5-axis machining.
